Result

Type Chinese text to see the conversion and the character diff.

What this tool does

  • Before sending copy to a client in Taiwan or Hong Kong, convert the simplified draft into the right regional traditional glyphs instead of guessing between 軟體 and 軟件.
  • Reading traditional Chinese material? Paste the whole thing at once and check the “changed characters” list to make sure nothing was mangled.
  • Proofread with the character diff: changed parts are highlighted, so you can confirm what actually changed and what was already identical.
  • Handle mixed-language documents — Latin text, digits, punctuation and emoji stay untouched and only Chinese characters are converted.

Example

Input

汉语繁体字转换 (Simplified → Traditional, Taiwan)

Output

漢語繁體字轉換; 5 characters changed: 汉→漢, 语→語, 体→體, 转→轉, 换→換

The Hong Kong direction gives the same result for this string, but 里面 becomes 裡面 in Taiwan and 裏面 in Hong Kong — that is the regional glyph difference.

Frequently asked questions

How do the Taiwan and Hong Kong variants differ?

A small set of characters has a different standard form: Taiwan writes 裡面, 頭髮, 臺灣 while Hong Kong writes 裏面, 頭髮, 台灣. The tool uses OpenCC’s regional configurations, so one simplified character can map to different traditional glyphs depending on the direction.

Does it change wording or vocabulary?

No. This tool uses OpenCC’s character-level configurations (cn→tw/hk/t), which only swap glyphs — it does not rewrite 软件 as 軟體. If you need regional vocabulary, review the terms separately.

How is the changed-character list produced?

The converted text is compared with the input character by character using a longest-common-subsequence diff, and equal and changed runs are marked. When a changed run has the same length on both sides it is split into per-character pairs, and the list is deduplicated.

Why do some characters come out unchanged?

Plenty of characters are identical in both scripts — 字, 你, 世 and many more. If nothing at all needs converting (say plain English or emoji), the tool simply reports that no conversion was needed.

Is anything uploaded or fetched?

No. The dictionaries ship with the page and both the conversion and the diff run locally in the browser. Up to 5000 characters are accepted per conversion; longer input is rejected instead of freezing the page.
