Fonts come from the FIGlet font files bundled with figlet and are rendered locally — nothing is downloaded.

What this tool does

  • Add a banner to a script, CLI or README: faster than typing a row of equals signs, and the result is plain ASCII that renders in any terminal.
  • Split long files into sections with a block heading inside code comments, so you can spot the part you want at a glance.
  • Decorate plain-text reports, emails or issue templates without depending on fonts or images.
  • Turn on wrapping when you need a specific width, so a long title fits your terminal or comment block.

  _ _ _ _ ___ _
 | | | |_ __ (_) |/ (_) |_
 | | | | '_ \| | ' /| | __|
 | |_| | | | | | . \| | |_
  \___/|_| |_|_|_|\_\_|\__|

This is the real Standard-font output with wrapping off: 5 lines, 27 columns at the widest, with trailing spaces trimmed from every line.

Frequently asked questions

Why do Chinese characters or emoji produce nothing?

FIGlet font files only contain glyphs for ASCII characters, so CJK text and emoji have no shapes to draw and the result is empty. The page reports that the font has no glyph for these characters — switch to Latin letters or digits.

What should I put in the wrap width?

Anything from 20 to 1000 columns. 80 (a standard terminal) or 100 are the usual choices. Wrapping breaks on the rendered column count, so each line ends up slightly narrower than the setting rather than overflowing by one character.

Are the fonts downloaded from the network?

No. Every font comes from the FIGlet font files bundled with the figlet package: Standard loads with the page and the other 19 are imported on demand when you pick them. It is all local — no font server is ever contacted.

Do different fonts vary a lot in height?

Yes. Small, Mini and Lean come out around 3–5 lines and fit nicely inside comments, while Big, Banner, Ghost and Shadow can reach 6–8 lines for a startup banner. Switching fonts redraws immediately, so you can compare before deciding.

Why is there a backslash in the copied output?

It is part of the glyph, not an escape character — several FIGlet fonts build slanted strokes from `\` and `_`. That is perfectly fine inside a code comment; you only need to escape it if you paste it into a regex or a string literal in a language that treats backslashes specially.
