Anagram checker
Check whether two strings are anagrams: optionally ignore case, spaces and punctuation, see a side-by-side character frequency table with what is extra and what is missing, and group a word list into anagram families.

Comparison
The comparison uses normalised character frequencies; lengths count Unicode code points so Chinese, digits and emoji each count as one character.
Comparison
Type two strings and they are compared immediately.

What this tool does
- Check a word puzzle: whether listen and silent are anagrams, with a frequency table instead of counting letters by eye.
- Paste a list of candidate words into the grouping box and let the tool collect the anagram families for a word game.
- Reconcile two lists or two identifiers that should be the same characters in a different order — the table shows what is extra and what is missing.
- Compare text with diacritics or full-width punctuation after normalisation, so é versus e or a full-width comma does not fool you.
Example
Input
First string: listen Second string: silent
Output
Anagrams · normalised listen / silent · frequencies e:1/1, i:1/1, l:1/1, n:1/1, s:1/1, t:1/1 · extra: none · missing: none
Both strings use exactly the same multiset of characters, so every delta in the frequency table is zero.
Frequently asked questions
How is an anagram different from a palindrome?
An anagram compares two strings that use the same characters in a different order (listen ↔ silent), so the character multiset is what matters. A palindrome is a single string that reads the same both ways (level). Both tools here normalise text the same way.
Do "Eleven plus two" and "Twelve plus one" count?
Yes. With spaces ignored they normalise to elevenplustwo and twelveplusone, and the letter counts match exactly (three e and three l, everything else once) — a famous English anagram pair.
What does delta mean in the table?
delta is the count in the first string minus the count in the second. A positive value is a character the first string has too many of, a negative value is one it is missing, and the extra/missing boxes spell those out — aab versus abb is "extra a, missing b".
What if both strings are empty?
When nothing survives normalisation (for example only punctuation was typed) the tool reports an anagram with an empty frequency table, matching the empty-string convention in the palindrome checker. If only one side is empty the answer is no.
Which words are skipped when grouping?
Words that normalise to nothing (pure punctuation or whitespace) are skipped, and words without a partner are not reported: only groups with at least two members are listed, ordered by where the first member appeared in your input.
