Torque converter
Convert between N·m, kgf·m, kgf·cm, lbf·ft, lbf·in and dyn·cm with exact constants (1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m, 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314004 N·m) and see every unit at once.

Torque and units
Exact constants are used: 1 kgf = 9.80665 N (standard gravity), 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314004 N·m, 1 lbf·in = 1 lbf·ft ÷ 12 and 1 dyn·cm = 1e-7 N·m.

What this tool does
- The manual says 88 N·m but your wrench is in lb-ft — convert before you tighten.
- Work from imperial service data: see what 100 lbf·ft is in N·m without remembering the 1.3558 factor.
- Compare torque values across documents: all six units are listed at once, including kgf·m, kgf·cm, lbf·in and dyn·cm.
- Check magnitudes when writing documentation — 1 N·m = 10000000 dyn·cm is an easy place to drop or add a zero.
Example
Input
Torque value 100, from N·m to lbf·ft
Output
Converted value 73.756215 lbf·ft; all units: N·m 100, kgf·m 10.197162, kgf·cm 1019.7162, lbf·ft 73.756215, lbf·in 885.07458, dyn·cm 1000000000
Exact constants: 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314004 N·m (= 0.45359237 kg × 9.80665 m/s² × 0.3048 m) and 1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between kgf·m and lbf·ft?
Both are “force × lever arm” with different force and length units: 1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m and 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558179483314004 N·m. One kgf·m is about 7.233 lbf·ft, so a factor of more than seven — the magnitude alone usually tells you which unit you are looking at.
How many kgf·m is 1 N·m?
1 ÷ 9.80665 = 0.10197162129779283 kgf·m, roughly 0.102 kgf·m. Equivalently, 1 kgf·m ≈ 9.807 N·m, which follows directly from the standard gravity value of 9.80665 m/s².
Is dyn·cm still used anywhere?
It appears in physics labs, motor data and older documents. Since 1 dyn = 1e-5 N and 1 cm = 0.01 m, one dyn·cm is 1e-7 N·m, so 1 N·m = 10000000 dyn·cm — a wide gap that makes dropped zeros very easy.
Can torque be negative?
Yes. A negative value just means the direction is opposite to the agreed positive sense, and the tool keeps the sign instead of taking an absolute value, so left-hand threads and reaction torques are not silently flipped.
Do I need this many decimals for tightening bolts?
A torque wrench is typically accurate to ±3–4%, so six decimal places are meaningless in practice. The unit itself, however, is critical: mistaking N·m for lbf·ft over-torques by more than seven times, which is enough to shear a bolt.
