Cooking unit converter
Convert cooking units — cups, spoons, millilitres, ounces, grams — with exact constants (1 cup = 236.5882365 mL), plus volume↔weight conversion for flour, sugar and other ingredients using a density table. Densities are reference values.

Conversion
Volume uses exact constants: 1 cup = 236.5882365 mL, 1 tbsp = 14.7867648 mL, 1 tsp = 4.92892159375 mL. Weight: 1 oz = 28.349523125 g, 1 lb = 453.59237 g.
Result
Fill in the amount and the units, then press “Convert”.

What this tool does
- Cooking from an English recipe: turn 1 cup or 2 tbsp into millilitres, or weigh the flour in grams instead.
- If you bake by weight: 1 cup of flour is 125 g and 1 cup of granulated sugar is 200 g, so the recipe needs no rewriting.
- No measuring cup? Work backwards — 250 mL is about 1.06 cups.
- Sanity-check a recipe: spoons, cups, millilitres and ounces side by side, so a tablespoon never gets confused with a teaspoon.
Example
Input
Type: ingredient; amount 1; from cup; to gram; ingredient all-purpose flour
Output
125 g (125 g per cup, i.e. 0.5283 g/mL)
Plain volume conversion uses exact constants: 1 cup = 236.5882365 mL, 1 tbsp = 14.7867648 mL, and 3 tsp = 1 tbsp (the tiny remainder is floating point).
Frequently asked questions
How many millilitres is a cup?
The US customary cup is exactly 236.5882365 mL, which is 16 tbsp or 8 fl oz. Be aware that the traditional UK cup and the Japanese 1 カップ are about 200 mL, so scale those recipes accordingly.
Why can’t volume convert straight to grams?
Because grams are mass and millilitres are volume; you need a density in between. The tool therefore has three modes: volume↔volume and weight↔weight use constants, while volume↔weight requires an ingredient and uses the built-in density table. A cross-kind conversion is refused rather than guessed.
Are the densities accurate?
They are common reference values: all-purpose flour 125 g per cup, granulated sugar 200 g, packed brown sugar 220 g, butter 227 g, honey 340 g and so on. Sifting flour or packing sugar can change a cup by more than 10%, so weighing is the safer route when baking.
How do tablespoons and teaspoons relate?
By definition 1 tbsp = 3 tsp, 1 fl oz = 2 tbsp and 1 cup = 16 tbsp, which matches 1 tbsp = 14.7867648 mL and 1 tsp = 4.92892159375 mL. Any tiny remainder comes from floating point; the tool uses the exact constants internally.
