Hourly rate calculator

Convert between annual, monthly, weekly, daily and hourly pay, with editable working-hour assumptions (2080 hours per year = 40h × 52w by default) and exact integer-cent maths.

Known amount and assumptions

The known amount is first converted to an annual figure and then divided by the assumptions above. Everything is computed in whole cents and each period is rounded separately, so converting a monthly salary back to annual can differ by a few cents.

What this tool does

  • Compare two job offers fairly: convert each salary to an hourly figure so “more money, more overtime” stops looking better by default.
  • Work out your own time cost before taking freelance work — anything below your day-job hourly rate is a pay cut.
  • Turn daily or weekly pay into an annual figure so jobs advertised on different bases are comparable.
  • Freelancers: plug in the hours actually worked (say 1200 a year) to see the real per-hour earnings.

Example

Input

Annual salary 260000 CNY, assuming 2080 hours, 260 working days and 52 weeks per year

Output

Hourly 125.00 CNY; annual 260,000.00 CNY, monthly 21,666.67 CNY, weekly 5,000.00 CNY, daily 1,000.00 CNY

The monthly figure is 260000 ÷ 12 = 21666.67 rounded to cents, so converting it back to annual gives 260000.04 — the expected result of rounding each period independently.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the default 2080 hours a year?

Because 2080 = 40 hours a week × 52 weeks, the standard full-time figure used internationally and handy when comparing roles across countries. To use the Chinese statutory basis of 250 working days / 2000 hours a year, set the hours field to 2000 and the days field to 250 — the hourly rate goes up accordingly.

Why does this hourly rate differ from my payslip?

Different definitions. Dividing annual pay by annual hours gives an averaged rate that already absorbs paid leave and public holidays. Overtime law instead uses monthly salary ÷ 21.75 days ÷ 8 hours, which exists only to fix the multiplier — the two will never be identical.

Why does converting a monthly salary back to annual add a few cents?

Each period is rounded to whole cents independently: 260000 a year becomes 21666.67 a month, and multiplying back by 12 gives 260000.04. A sub-cent difference is normal rounding and does not change the comparison — for bookkeeping, use whichever period the contract actually specifies.

Does it handle tax?

No, it only converts between periods and ignores income tax and social contributions. Whether you enter gross or net is up to you — just be consistent across the offers you compare.

Is there any floating point error?

No. Every amount is computed in integer cents and only divided by 100 for display, so you will never see 0.1 + 0.2 turn into 0.30000000000000004.
