Regular hexagon area
Regular hexagon area A = 3√3/2·a²: enter the side length to get the area plus perimeter, apothem, circumradius and both diagonals; values are rounded to 6 decimals and a non-positive side is rejected.

What this tool does
- Compute the area of a hexagonal tile, honeycomb panel or nut face and get the apothem and diagonals for layout.
- Check single-cell dimensions and circumradius when building a honeycomb or hex grid.
- Verify the formulas: area 3√3/2·a², apothem √3/2·a, circumradius a.
Example
Input
2
Output
边长 2 的正六边形面积:10.392305 周长 6a:12 边心距 √3/2·a:1.732051 外接圆半径 a:2 短对角线 √3·a:3.464102 长对角线 2a:4 长度单位 u,面积 u²,体积 u³
For side 1 the area is 3√3/2 ≈ 2.598076, the perimeter 6, the apothem √3/2 ≈ 0.866025, the circumradius 1, the short diagonal √3 ≈ 1.732051 and the long diagonal 2 — all canonical.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a regular hexagon six equilateral triangles?
The centre-to-vertex distance equals the side length, so the hexagon splits into six equilateral triangles of side a: 6 × √3/4·a² = 3√3/2·a².
Apothem versus circumradius?
The circumradius is the centre-to-vertex distance and equals the side a; the apothem is the centre-to-edge distance, √3/2·a ≈ 0.866a. Honeycomb layouts use the apothem for row offsets.
Why are there two diagonals?
A regular hexagon has two distinct diagonals: the short one √3·a (skipping one vertex) and the long one 2a (skipping two, i.e. the diameter).
