Workday counter

Count the working days between two dates, with a custom weekly rest pattern, a holiday list and optional start/end inclusion — pure integer date maths, immune to time zones.

Runs in your browserEvery computation happens in your browser — your data never leaves this device.

Dates and working rules

Saturday and Sunday are rest days by default. Dates are counted with pure integer day arithmetic, so the result is independent of time zone and daylight saving. The start date defaults to today and is read once after the island mounts.

What this tool does

  • Work out the days you can actually work on when planning a project: enter your weekly rest pattern and public holidays to get a realistic number.
  • Price up time off: see exactly how many working days a leave request between two dates consumes.
  • Turn a contractual “15 business days” into a concrete calendar window for invoices or SLAs.
  • Model shift patterns — if your team rests on Friday and Saturday, tick those two and the count follows your own rule.

Example

Input

Start 2024-01-01 (Mon), end 2024-01-07 (Sun), rest days Saturday and Sunday, holidays 2024-01-01

Output

4 working days; 7 calendar days, 2 rest days, 1 holiday on a working day, matched holiday 2024-01-01

2024-01-06 is also a Saturday; if you list it as a holiday it lands on a rest day and is ignored, so the count stays at 4.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set weekends and holidays?

Tick the rest days of the week — Saturday and Sunday by default. Holidays are a plain date list separated by commas, spaces or new lines. A holiday is only deducted when it falls on a working day; ones that land on a rest day are ignored so nothing is subtracted twice.

Why is the result one day off from another tool?

Almost always the start/end inclusion rule. This tool includes both ends by default, so 2024-01-01 to 2024-01-01 counts as one day. Untick “Include start day” or “Include end day” to switch to a half-open range.

Does the time zone or daylight saving affect the count?

No. Dates are converted to integer day serials and evaluated one by one, without touching local time from the Date object, so the same input gives the same answer in every time zone and under every DST rule.

How long a range can I count?

Up to roughly 100 years (36600 days) per run; beyond that the tool reports an error instead of freezing the page. Everyday planning never comes close — the limit only guards against a mistyped year.

Where does “today” come from?

The start date defaults to today, but it is read once after the island mounts. The page does not keep tracking the clock and never sends your dates anywhere.
