Tip calculator
Tip calculator with the usual 10/15/18/20/25% presets or a custom percentage, an option to tip on the taxed total, an even split between diners, and rounding of the tip to the cent, the tenth of a yuan or the yuan.

Bill details
Everything is computed in integer cents: the tip is calculated from the chosen percentage and then rounded to the precision you pick, and the per-person amounts use the largest remainder method.
Result
When the total does not divide evenly, the leftover cents go to the largest fractional shares, so one person may pay one cent more — the sum always equals the total.

- Pay a restaurant bill abroad: tap the 15% or 20% preset to get the tip, the total and what each person owes.
- Split a shared meal: enter how many people are paying and the tool divides the total, assigning the leftover cents explicitly.
- Turn the tax switch off to tip on the pre-tax amount only, which is the usual North American convention.
- Paying cash and want a round number? Round the tip to the tenth of a yuan or to the yuan so nobody digs for change.
Example
Input
Bill 100 yuan, tax 6%, tip 15%, not on the taxed total, split between 2 people
Output
Tax 6.00 yuan, tip base 100.00 yuan, tip 15.00 yuan, total 121.00 yuan, each person pays 60.50 yuan
Switching “Calculate the tip on the taxed total” on moves the tip base to 106.00 yuan, the tip to 15.90 yuan and the total to 121.90 yuan.
Frequently asked questions
Should the tip be calculated before or after tax?
The North American convention is to tip on the pre-tax amount, so the tip base is the bill figure before tax; some situations (especially where a service charge already includes tax) tip on the taxed total. The tool defaults to the pre-tax amount and switches to the taxed total when you flip the toggle.
Which quick percentages are available?
There are presets for 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% and 25%, covering the usual range from modest to generous. You can also type any percentage you like — 12.5% included — into the custom field.
Why can one person owe one cent more?
Totals rarely divide evenly. The tool uses the largest remainder method, giving the leftover cents to the people with the largest fractional shares, so one person may pay a cent more — but the amounts always add up exactly to the total.
What is the point of rounding to the tenth of a yuan or the yuan?
It makes cash payments easy: rounding the tip to 0.1 or 1 yuan produces a tidy total with no change needed. The rounding applies to the tip only; the bill and tax keep their exact values.
How do I handle a service charge?
If the bill already includes a service charge, fold it into the “Bill amount” field and pick a suitable tip percentage. If you need the service charge itemised and shared by weight between several people, the bill split calculator in this toolkit fits better.
