Chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric weight — use the volumetric weight calculator first if you are unsure. The tariff table holds sample prices; edit it to match your carrier.
Sample tariff table (editable)
First kilo plus continuation is the most common structure. The values below are sample prices (as of 2026-10) and both the first-kilo and continuation prices can be edited.

What this tool does
- Quote a shipment before you promise a price: enter the chargeable weight and destination zone to get the first-kilo plus continuation breakdown without digging through a tariff sheet.
- Compare routes: see what the same 2 kg parcel costs locally, within the province, cross-province or to Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan on a single table.
- Explain the breakdown: when a customer thinks the freight is expensive, list first weight, continuation, fuel surcharge, remote-area fee and insurance line by line.
- Check a carrier invoice: type the invoice’s first-kilo and continuation prices into the table and recompute — a gap usually sits in the fuel or remote-area surcharge.
Example
Input
Chargeable weight 2 kg, zone "Cross-province (economy)", insured value CNY 0, fuel surcharge 5%, insurance rate 3‰
Output
First weight ¥12.00, continuation steps 2, continuation charge ¥6.00, freight subtotal ¥18.00, fuel surcharge ¥0.90, remote surcharge ¥0.00, insured-value fee ¥0.00, total ¥18.90
Continuation steps = ceil((2000 g − 1000 g) ÷ 500 g) = 2, and the fuel surcharge is 5% of the freight subtotal rounded to the cent, i.e. ¥0.90.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the price not just weight × unit rate?
Domestic couriers use a first-kilo plus continuation ladder: the first kilo (usually 1 kg) has one price, and every extra 0.5 kg adds another step, with partial steps charged in full. International shipments add fuel surcharges, remote-area fees and insured-value fees, so the total is not linear.
What do I enter as chargeable weight?
The greater of actual and volumetric weight. Bulky parcels are billed on volumetric weight — compute it first with the volumetric weight calculator using your carrier’s divisor so the numbers line up with the invoice.
Can I use the built-in tariff table as is?
No — those are sample prices (as of 2026-10) that exist to show the structure. First-kilo price, continuation price and remote fee are all editable on the page, so replace them with your carrier’s or contract rates before relying on the total.
How are the fuel and insured-value fees computed?
The fuel surcharge is the freight subtotal (first weight plus continuation) times a percentage, rounded to the cent. The insured-value fee is the declared value times a per-mille rate (3‰ in the example). The remote-area fee is a flat amount added on top.
Why are customs and duties excluded?
Brokerage fees, clearance handling and destination duty or VAT are paid by the importer and are separate from the carrier’s freight charge. For total landed cost, use the import duty calculator instead.
