Frequently asked questions
How much poetry is included?
Thirty-seven pieces: 26 Tang poems, 9 Song poems and ci, plus Yu Qian’s Ming poem and Zheng Xie’s Qing poem, by 18 poets in total. They are well-known pieces from common anthologies; the wording follows standard editions and punctuation is normalised to full-width marks. This is a curated index, not a complete corpus (the Complete Tang Poems holds over 48,000 pieces), and it does not search the web.
How does matching work?
Multiple keywords are combined with AND: every keyword must appear in the title, author, dynasty, genre or text, and keywords are separated by spaces, commas or enumeration commas. Results are ranked by relevance — title +3, author +2, genre and dynasty +1 each, text +1 — with ties keeping the original order. With "Search the poem text only" enabled the title, author, dynasty and genre are not searched.
Why can’t I find some famous poems?
Because the data table is a hand-curated subset, not a full library. The author filter is a partial match (李 matches both 李白 and 李清照) while the dynasty filter is exact and limited to the dynasties present (唐, 宋, 明, 清). Raise "Max results" (up to 100) to see every match.
Are there translations or commentary?
No. The page only provides the original text and basic catalogue data (dynasty, author, genre). It offers no vernacular translation, annotation, background or criticism, and does not collate textual variants. For scholarly notes consult an authoritative edition; this site does not generate unverified explanations.
