The cost is estimated as total hourly rate × elapsed seconds ÷ 3600. A headcount of 3 on one row means three people share that rate. The timer starts once the island mounts and is cleared when you leave the page; the pure logic only takes the elapsed seconds.

The total is rounded to whole cents as total hourly rate × seconds ÷ 3600, then split by hourly-rate weight with the largest remainder method, so the parts always add back up to the total.
Frequently asked questions
What is the headcount column for?
It merges identical rates into one row: a rate of 150 CNY with headcount 3 means three people each earning 150 per hour. The attendee count becomes 3 and the cost accumulates at triple the rate, so you do not need to repeat rows.
How is the cost computed, and can a cent go missing?
The total is rounded to whole cents as total hourly rate × elapsed seconds ÷ 3600, then distributed with the largest remainder method: integer parts first, then the leftover cents go to the largest fractional parts. Every share stays an integer number of cents and they add up exactly to the total.
Does the timer keep running in the background?
The interval is created once the page loads but only accumulates seconds after you press Start; Pause stops it immediately and Reset clears the counter. It is cleared when you leave the page, so nothing keeps ticking behind your back.
Should the rate be gross or net?
The tool only multiplies, so either works as long as you are consistent. Teams usually use a fully loaded internal cost per hour (salary plus benefits, desk and equipment), while freelancers use their own billing rate.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Rates, headcounts and the timer all live in your browser, the page makes no network requests, and a refresh clears everything.
