Lines: 0 · Numbered: 0 · Unnumbered: 0 · Groups: 0
What this tool does
- Turn a plain list, checklist or list of steps into a numbered list you can paste into a document.
- Renumber every N items from the start value again, e.g. groups of five in a checklist.
- Zero-pad the numbers (001) so a log stays sortable alphabetically.
Example
Input
apple banana cherry
Output
apple) 01 banana) 02 cherry) 03
Numbers start at 1 in front of the line; the English example puts them at the end with zero padding.
Frequently asked questions
Do numbers start at 1 or 0?
At 1 by default; change the start value to 0 or anything else. The step defaults to 1 — use 2 for 1, 3, 5. A step of 0 is rejected because every line would get the same number.
Are blank lines numbered?
No — they are neither numbered nor counted, and they stay in place. Turn on “Number blank lines too” to give them a number, or turn off “Keep unnumbered blank lines” to remove them.
How does zero padding work?
It pads to a character width without truncating: with width 3, 1 becomes 001 and 12 becomes 012, while 1234 stays 1234.
How do I put the number at the end of the line?
Switch “Number position” to the end and use a separator such as “) ”. Numbering still follows the line order.
