Blank line inserter
Insert one or more blank lines after every non-blank line of a list — existing blanks can be kept, collapsed or dropped, the blank lines can be filled with e.g. ` `, and you control whether the last line gets one too.

Result
One item per line; blanks are real blank lines, ready to copy.
Paste a list to add blank lines
Input lines: 0 · Non-blank lines: 0 · Blanks inserted: 0 · Output lines: 0
What this tool does
- Turn a dense one-item-per-line list into double-spaced output that is easier to skim in notes or chat.
- Format Markdown or rich text: keep blank lines between headings and bullets so they are not merged into one paragraph.
- Prepare import templates that require a blank line between records.
Example
Input
apple banana cherry
Output
apple banana cherry
One blank line after each non-blank line, with no trailing blank, so 3 lines become 5 (2 blanks inserted).
Frequently asked questions
Does the last line get a trailing blank?
No, not by default, so copying does not leave a tail of blank lines. Turn on “Also after the last line” if you want the output to end with a blank line.
What about blanks that were already there?
The “Existing blanks” option decides: keep (the default) leaves them, collapse squeezes runs into one, and drop removes them. All three only affect the blanks from your input, never the inserted ones.
Can I insert a visible placeholder instead?
Yes. Put ` ` or a space in the blank-line content and the inserted lines hold those characters instead of being truly empty — handy for editors that swallow empty lines. The filler also takes part in the collapse check.
How many blanks can be inserted at once?
“Blank lines per item” accepts an integer from 0 to 100; 0 only normalizes the blanks you already have. Anything above 100 is rejected so the output cannot balloon into millions of lines.
