What this tool does
- Pull every line containing a keyword out of a log or export to locate the records you need.
- Search several keywords at once, e.g. error and failed; turn on all-match for AND semantics.
- Mark hits to see why a line matched and avoid surprises from short keywords such as a inside banana.
Example
Input
error: disk full info: ok warn: disk 90%
Output
[error, disk] error: disk full [disk] warn: disk 90%
The English example marks each hit in front of the line, which is handy when several keywords overlap.
Frequently asked questions
Are multiple keywords AND or OR?
OR by default: a line is kept when any keyword hits. Switch to “every keyword must match” for AND semantics, where the line must contain all of them at once.
How does whole-word matching decide?
The keyword may not be preceded or followed by a letter, digit or underscore, so a does not match ab, a1 or a_b but does match (a), [a] and “a ”. For CJK keywords whole-word mode behaves like plain substring mode.
Do regex metacharacters apply to my keywords?
No — keywords are always treated literally here, so a.b matches only a.b and never a1b, and no escaping is needed. Use the regex switch of the list filter tool when you want pattern behaviour.
Is the result deduplicated?
Not by default: each matching line is reported once from the input order, and identical lines are all kept. “Deduplicate the result” folds identical lines, and with ignore-case ERROR and error count as the same line.
