List right cutter

Keep only the last N characters of every line in a line-based list — counted by Unicode code points so nothing is sliced mid-character, whole lines kept when N is longer, with an optional ellipsis and truncation statistics for tail data such as file extensions.

Runs in your browserEvery computation happens in your browser — your data never leaves this device.

List

Cut result

One item per line, counted by Unicode code points, ready to copy.

Paste a list to keep the right N characters of each line

Lines: 0 · Truncated: 0 · Characters kept: 0

What this tool does

  • Pull the tail out of file names, paths or dated codes: extension, trailing serial number, timestamp.
  • Preview masked data: show only the last 4 digits of phone numbers or card numbers.
  • Align variable-length codes by their trailing fixed-width fragment for easier comparison.

Example

Input

report_2024.pdf
photo_2025.jpg
notes.txt

Output

.pdf
.jpg
.txt

With N = 4 the file list collapses to .pdf / .jpg / .txt — exactly the extension length.

Frequently asked questions

Does it keep the last N characters or remove them?

It keeps the last N characters. To strip them instead, use the matching “remove right N characters” tool — the two are exact inverses.

How are Chinese characters counted?

One Chinese character is 1 and one emoji is 1, because counting walks Unicode code points, so a character is never split in half. Composite emoji such as skin-tone variants count as several code points.

What if N is longer than the line?

Nothing breaks — the line is kept as is. One N works for a list of mixed lengths; the truncation counter only counts lines that really lost characters.

What about a negative N?

It reports an error rather than treating it as 0. N must be an integer no smaller than 0; with N = 0 lines become empty and are dropped as blanks unless you turn that off.
