List column extractor
Pull one or more columns out of a delimiter-separated text list — comma, tab, pipe or any custom separator, column specs like 1,3 and 2-4, quoted fields, and a clear policy for rows with too few columns.

Lines: 0 · Output: 0 · Skipped: 0 · Max columns: 0
What this tool does
- Keep only the columns you need from an exported CSV, TSV or log and paste them into a sheet.
- Slice line-based records by column number: take column 2 as a name list, or columns 1 and 3 as a new pair.
- Spot rows whose structure differs — the max-column count and the skipped count expose them immediately.
Example
Input
id,name,city 1,Zhang San,"Beijing, CN" 2,Li Si,Shanghai 3,Wang Wu
Output
id,city 1,Beijing, CN 2,Shanghai
Column numbers start at 1; the last row has fewer fields, so a missing column follows the chosen policy.
Frequently asked questions
Do column numbers start at 1 or 0?
At 1, matching how people count columns in a sheet; 0 or a negative number is rejected instead of silently falling back. Multiple columns use commas or ranges: 1,3 / 2-4 / 1-2,5.
How do I use a tab as the separator?
Type `\t` in the delimiter box and it becomes a real tab — pasting a literal tab works too. `\n` is a newline and `\s+` means any whitespace.
What about a comma inside a field?
Wrap the field in double quotes and the comma stops being a delimiter: 1,"Beijing, CN" splits into two columns and the comma is kept. Two quotes in a row inside a quoted field mean one literal quote; unbalanced quotes are not auto-corrected.
A row has fewer columns than the others — what happens?
The “Missing columns” option decides: skip (default) drops the row and counts it, empty fills the missing cells with empty values, keep outputs the original line so you can inspect it.
