Hearing frequency range test
Interpret a frequency sweep: compute the measured hearing range, derive the age-based expected upper limit (a simplified ISO 7029 rule), and separate genuine loss from device limits.

What this tool does
- Test headphones and your own limit: answer heard/not heard per octave and get the measured upper limit immediately.
- Tell hearing loss from device limits: when the result hits the device ceiling it says so instead of blaming your ears.
- Age comparison: a 40-year-old man is expected around 16 kHz, so you can see whether you fall clearly below that.
- Long-term monitoring: record every few months and watch whether the upper limit keeps dropping.

Age-based upper limit: 20000 − (age − 20) × 200 Hz, plus 1500 Hz for women.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the expected limit come from?
A linear simplification of ISO 7029: f_max ≈ 20000 − (age − 20) × 200 Hz, plus 1500 Hz for women, clamped to 2000–20000 Hz. A 40-year-old man therefore expects 20000 − 20 × 200 = 16000 Hz. Real populations vary widely, so treat it as a handy reference.
Why does 16 kHz become unreliable?
Because most headphones and phone speakers roll off around 16 kHz; higher points are either attenuated or simply not produced. When the measured limit reaches the device ceiling the tool says the real limit cannot be judged rather than giving a verdict.
What do the low frequencies tell me?
Almost nothing about hearing. Reproducing 20–60 Hz needs large drivers or dedicated headphones, and ordinary devices are weak there, so 'not heard' usually reflects the device. The result always states this.
What is the input format?
Answer in scan order (20, 25, 32 … 16000, 20000 Hz) with heard/not heard, using y/n, 1/0, 是/否 or 听到/没听到 separated by spaces or commas. Only the points you supply are interpreted, up to 31.
Does it play sound?
This module only interprets results and plays nothing. The actual test needs the page to synthesise a sine wave at each frequency for you to confirm; even then, browser audio and consumer headphones are neither level-calibrated nor frequency-flat, so the result is a rough guide only.
Can it diagnose hearing?
No. It only tells you roughly the highest frequency you could hear at that device setting and volume. A real assessment needs a soundproof booth, a calibrated audiometer and a professional operator.
