What this tool does
- Self-check before submitting a sitemap: root element, namespace, absolute loc URLs, lastmod format, changefreq and priority values in one pass.
- When Search Console reports “Sitemap could not be read”, paste the file to find out which entry and which field is wrong.
- Check the hard limits — 50000 URLs and 50MB per file — and see when you need to split into a sitemapindex.
Example
Input
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> <url><loc>https://example.com/en/</loc><lastmod>2026-10-01</lastmod><changefreq>weekly</changefreq><priority>0.8</priority></url> </urlset>
Output
Root element urlset · file type urlset · 1 URL entry · namespace http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9 · 0 errors · 0 warnings · issues: structure, namespaces and every URL field look fine.
Change changefreq to often or priority to 1.5 and the matching error appears in the issue list immediately.
Frequently asked questions
Which lastmod formats are accepted?
The protocol wants W3C Datetime: either the full 2026-10-01T09:30:00+08:00 or a date-only 2026-10-01. Formats like 2026/10/01 or 10-01-2026 are invalid, and out-of-range values such as month 13 or day 32 are rejected too.
Do I still need changefreq and priority?
Both are optional and Google says it ignores them. If you include them they must match the allowed values (changefreq: always/hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/yearly/never; priority: 0.0–1.0 with at most one decimal), otherwise they only add noise.
What is the difference between urlset and sitemapindex?
A urlset lists page URLs directly; a sitemapindex lists other sitemap files. The rules differ: a sitemapindex may only contain <sitemap> children, so a <url> inside one is flagged.
Can loc contain Chinese characters or spaces?
No. loc must be a percent-encoded absolute URL, so Chinese becomes %E4%B8%AD and spaces become %20. The tool points out the entry that is not encoded.
Will it fetch my sitemap?
No. The tool parses the text you paste, requests nothing and uploads nothing. Use the search engines’ own tools when you want a live crawl.
