Meta preview

Preview how a page looks in Google search results: titles are cut at roughly 600 pixels, descriptions at about 160 characters, with length and pixel estimates.

Runs in your browserEvery computation happens in your browser — your data never leaves this device.

Page meta

Pixel widths are estimated per character with an Arial width table (title 20px / 600px cap, description 14px / 920px cap). Nothing is fetched.

Search result preview

Google adjusts its truncation widths from time to time; these are common reference values.

What this tool does

  • Check how a title and meta description will actually look in search results before shipping, so the important words are not the ones cut off by the ellipsis.
  • Audit a page: title length, description length and an over-long URL breadcrumb are listed as concrete issues instead of vague advice.
  • Compare locales — a 60-character English title and a 30-character Chinese title occupy a similar number of pixels once full-width characters are accounted for.

Preview: UniKit 工具箱 · unikit.cc › tools › json-formatter; title 29 chars / 539 px (fits); description 65 chars / 842 px (fits); checks: no issues

This is exactly the data the tool loads by default, so you can compare it with the preview card on the page.

Frequently asked questions

How is the pixel width estimated?

Each character is looked up in an Arial advance-width table (in em) and multiplied by the font size: 20px with a ~600px cap for titles, 14px with a ~920px cap for descriptions. CJK characters count as one full width, so mixed Chinese/English text stays realistic.

My title is under 60 characters but is flagged as truncated — why?

Both limits apply and the stricter one wins. Wide characters cost more pixels: 60 capital Ws are about 1133px and blow past 600px, while 60 “i” characters are only about 266px and never get cut.

How long should a description be?

Roughly 120–160 characters in English, or about 60–70 Chinese characters (full-width glyphs are 14px each, so you hit the width cap around 65). Very short descriptions, under about 400px, tend to be flagged as thin content.

Does the preview match real search results exactly?

Not exactly. Google rewrites titles and descriptions based on the query, the site name and dates, and truncates differently on desktop and mobile. Use this preview to catch truncation and ordering problems, not as a pixel-perfect mock.

Does it fetch the URL I enter?

No. The URL is only parsed to build the breadcrumb preview; the tool makes no network requests and stores nothing.
