Chinese number converter

Convert Arabic numerals to Chinese readings and back: plain numerals, financial uppercase amounts (壹贰叁…圆角分整) and date-style digit readings (2024 → 二零二四), with negatives, decimals and round-trip verification.

Runs in your browserEvery computation happens in your browser — your data never leaves this device.

Amounts use the 圆角分整 cheque convention; date readings read digit by digit and keep leading zeros.

What this tool does

  • Turn plain numerals into the Chinese uppercase amount used on invoices and receipts, e.g. 1234.56 → 壹仟贰佰叁拾肆圆伍角陆分, instead of checking a reference table by hand.
  • Add a natural reading to numbers in Chinese copy: 1234.56 becomes 一千二百三十四点五六, which reads much better than digits.
  • Settle the year question — 2024 is 二零二四 (digit by digit) while the month and day use normal numerals, exactly as the date reading does.
  • Work backwards to verify an amount you typed: 壹圆零伍分 becomes 1.05 and 一万零一十 becomes 10010, so a slip in the uppercase form is easy to catch.

Example

Input

1234.56

Output

Uppercase amount: 壹仟贰佰叁拾肆圆伍角陆分; plain reading: 一千二百三十四点五六

The amount form uses 圆 (not 元) and always fills in the 角 and 分 positions; whole amounts end with 整, so 10000 becomes 壹万圆整.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the uppercase amount allow at most two decimals?

Cheque-style amounts stop at 分 (0.01); further digits have no unit, so more than two decimals is rejected. The plain reading is not limited this way and can read out any number of decimal places digit by digit.

How many integer digits are supported?

Up to 16 digits, that is up to the 万亿 range; beyond that you get an out-of-range error. Zero is normalized too — -0 reads as 零 rather than 负零.

Why is 15 read as 十五 and not 一十五?

Chinese drops the leading 一 for 10–19, so 15 is 十五. Inside larger numbers the 一 stays, e.g. 115 is 一百一十五. The tool applies that convention so the reading matches everyday usage.

What can the reverse parser understand?

Plain numerals (一二三…万亿), the uppercase forms (壹贰叁…拾佰仟), variants such as 两 and 〇, and a leading 负 for negatives. Amount text may include 圆 / 元 / 角 / 分 / 厘. An unrecognised character raises an error rather than guessing a nearby value.

Is the amount checked against anything online?

No. Both readings are computed locally from fixed rules, the page makes no network request, and the numbers you type never leave the browser.
